I am so proud to have the support of Energy Chairman Kevin Cahill. He and I will work together in Albany to make the Hudson Valley a leader in new energy industries and technologies. I share Kevin’s forward-looking and responsible proposals to reduce the costs of energy for those that are struggling to make ends meet.
Of our campaign Assemblyman Cahill said, "Jonathan Smith understands New York's energy needs. He has the enthusiasm that will lead us in the right direction as well as the motivation to make a real difference in Albany."
It’s time to change our energy policy. My plan focuses on cutting energy costs, reducing our dependence on foreign oil and creating good-paying green jobs in the Hudson Valley by investing in renewable energy sources like wind, solar and biofuels. We must hold Big Oil accountable for making record billion-dollar profits at the expense of hardworking families. I supports instituting a windfall-profits tax that would direct some of the oil companies’ profits to the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP), helping more middle-income families and seniors pay their heating bills this winter.
